CONTEXT
These 4 pieces are part of a larger series that combine portraits originally created by the Innocent Surveillance interactive installation. The installation used a security camera and subverted facial recognition algorithms to find faces to generate portraits from. Over the course of 3 months, it created 2500 live portraits of willing passersby. Amongst those, pairs of portraits were carefully selected, colorized and juxtaposed to create these ghostly artifacts.
The blended images are reminiscent of the very temporary imprints faces leave in our brains as we go about our lives. Unfortunately, we have become as blind to security cameras as we are to unknown faces. Hopefully, taking time to acknowledge both will make us better citizens.
